Waste Tech Services (WTS), Franklin, Tennessee, and its owner Ann Johnson are celebrating 25 years in the trash business and the company’s growth from a “one-woman shop” to a business that now manages waste services for over 6,500 properties in every state.
“We don’t pick up the trash, but we sure love to talk it,” says Johnson. “Businesses are always looking for ways to save money, but most never think about looking for savings on their trash services. Our services come at zero risk and zero costs, as we only take a percentage of the money saved.”
WTS says it saves its clients money by brokering more favorable terms in their waste disposal contracts. All of their services are on a contingency-based program as there are no fees unless they find savings. Johnson says the numbers prove that her company has built a firm foundation for continuous growth:
- managing service at 6,500 properties in 50 states;
- nine full-time and 15 part-time employees;
- 94 percent of all clients find a saving with their services;
- more than $2.6 million in savings for their clients accrue annually; and
- WTS’ first client, TAMCO, saved more than $100,000 per month.
“Ann has been successful in tremendously reducing our costs,” says Executive Vice President W. Miles Warfield of Tennessee-based commercial real estate firm Brookside Properties. (Brookside Properties owns or manages 5,000 apartment units in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida.) “She is a delight to work with and is always responsive to our needs.”
Johnson says WTS specializes in working with its clients to reduce waste and increase recycling, improve solid waste handling, eliminate duplication, increase effectiveness, negotiate favorable service agreements and introduce innovative technology into their methods.
