Smith Forest Products is planning on opening a wood waste recycling facility in Waterville, Maine, the Kennebec Journal reports. The facility will convert brush, logs, chunk wood, stumps, grass, leaves and wood chips into mulch and other materials.
Dan Smith, who runs wood waste recycler D.H. Smith & Sons in Marshfield, Massachusetts, will be the owner of the site.
The Waterville Planning Board unanimously approved plans for the 6,400-square-foot recycling facility on May 3. According to reports, the facility will mostly specialize in clean wood.
“We like to cater to the landscapers, the arborists, the tree guys, the local tree clearers,” Smith says.
Smith notes that contractors and homeowners will also be among clientele who can dump wood waste at the site for a fee.
While plans were to erect the facility in 2021, Smith says he has paused work on the site due to elevated building costs. He says it could be a year before construction is complete on the site.
