Vecoplan Launches RDF Shredder

VEZ 2500 was introduced at the recent RWM show in the U.K.

Vecoplan LLC, Archdale, N.C., has developed and introduced its newest product, the VEZ 2500 Vecoplan RDF shredder. The new shredder, first introduced at the RWM show in Birmingham, U.K., has been designed to produce refuse-derived fuel through the production and sorting of residues.

In a press release, Vecoplan says the VEZ 2500 is a reshredder designed for users to generate high caloric fractions out of domestic and municipal solid waste, which is used as an energy source in cement and power plants.

Vecoplan notes that its re-shredder is a robust and compact single-shaft shredder that has been built for shredding pre-shredded ferrous/nonferrous and air classified recyclables. The high-performance shredding unit is designed to offer maximum throughput capacity, an energy-saving shredding process and easily accessible maintenance, the company says.

The shredding unit comprises a large cylindrical solid steel rotor and two solid counter knives with double the number of cuts per rotation to give users the highest performance at very homogeneous output particle structure. The rotor tooth cutters consist of hardened single cutters with usability up to four times, V-shape form-close fit for easy replacement and low maintenance and operating costs.

The counter knives consist of six individual segments, usability up to four times, individually adjustable from the outside. The unit has a small cutting gap that reduces heat-up and guarantees energy-saving shredding with maximum throughput capacity, Vecoplan says. The system also offers quick rotor replacement with its flanged shaft extension. Bearing and drive removal is not necessary during rotor replacement, the company says.

The VEZ 2500 is provided with the HiTorc-drive unit, a drive without gear with speed-controllable HiTorc motor that is being promoted as virtually maintenance-free and noiseless. The equipment also offers advanced frequency converter technology, with starting currents, efficiency and torque optimized for an energy-efficient and economic shredding process, Vecoplan says.

The current peaks can be adjusted and limited, resulting in lower energy costs compared to conventional drives. The very high torque which is available for the entire speed range allows a smooth start-up under load and fast and dynamic reverse actions at overload with unlimited reverse frequency thus most suitable for difficult, tenacious material.

The HiTorc-drive unit with 247 kW motor power replaces high-maintenance drive elements like belt drive, turbo coupling friction and/or gear drive.
