T&M Associates, a Middletown, New Jersey-based national consulting, environmental, engineering and construction management company, has appointed its Senior Vice President and Director of Human Resources Lynn Spence to its board of directors.
With 20 years of human resources experience across a range of industries, Spence brings a strong employee relations element to the board, which has become a key strategic differentiator for the firm. She is the first female to hold a board position at T&M in its 50-year history, representing what the company says is the ongoing shift toward a more diverse leadership profile within the industry.
Prior to this appointment, Spence was part of the company’s five-year strategic planning team, which was designed to accelerate growth by diversifying T&M’s capabilities, expanding its geographic footprint and investing in its employees.
“At a core level, T&M is about one thing: our people,” says T&M President and CEO Gary Dahms. “As the ‘owner’ of that asset, Lynn holds one of the most important and influential positions in the company. Based on the experience, innovation and commitment she brings to that role, along with her innate business acumen and goal orientation, she makes an outstanding addition to our board. We are privileged to have her.”
Since joining T&M six years ago, Spence has worked closely with its executive team to elevate the human resources function and ensure that it aligns directly with the firm’s organizational goals. She has leveraged best practices in human resources to modernize all aspects of the function and keep pace with T&M’s rapid growth. Adept at technology, Spence was ahead of the curve in using social media as the primary strategy for building a premier talent network, reshaping the way T&M approached employee acquisition to draw top talent to the firm. Recognizing the importance of employee well-being, she created Wellness Works, T&M’s employee wellness program and restructured many of T&M’s benefit programs. She also developed a career progression path program that provides access to career development tools and criteria and promotes open communication, personalization, diverse skills development and advancement. It has made a significant contribution to retention and fostered positive employee morale and a collaborative work environment.
Spence resides in Eatontown, New Jersey, with her husband and two young daughters. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from St. Joseph’s College. She is certified by the HR Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Certified Professional.
