A residential self-service nonperishable solid waste collection facility has opened in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome says this facility represents an investment in convenience for residents and the ongoing fight against litter and blight in Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish.

The facility was approved by the Metropolitan Council and is in Council District 3 in the Gardere area.

“We are committed to providing services that enhance the quality of life for our residents while addressing critical issues like litter and blight,” Broome says. “Similar to the recent announcement of the Corridor Cleaning Program, which will weekly clean 54 intersections for the next year, this new facility is a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a cleaner and safer Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish.”

Originally intended to be a small facility, Broome says officials soon recognized the need for a more expansive solution.

The collection site offers a central location for residents to dispose of nonperishable solid waste. Residents are also still able to bring waste to the North Landfill for collection.

“As the councilmember representing this area, I’m proud to support initiatives that make it easier for our residents to keep their neighborhoods clean and beautiful,” District 3 Councilmember Rowdy Gaudet says. “This collection facility is a crucial step towards reducing illegal dumping and promoting a healthier environment for the Gardere area and for all of East Baton Rouge Parish. It reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for our citizens and maintaining the beauty of our community.”
