Scott Recycling, Newport, Tennessee, temporarily has ceased operations following a fire at its facility Aug. 28.
“The fire has resulted in significant damage to our corporate offices and processing facility, making it impossible to continue operations there. We are actively working to find a suitable alternative location as soon as possible and anticipate that our operations will be suspended for approximately a month,” the company says on its website.
Cocke County Sheriff CJ Ball told WVLT News the building is a total loss, but no one was injured in the fire. Other than flames, Ball told the station he doesn’t believe the public was in any danger.
The massive fire broke Monday evening at the 131 Verner Ave. site, and every emergency response agency in Cocke County responded to the blaze, as well as some agencies from outside the county, the Cocke County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) says on its Facebook page.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office says the blaze was reported at 9:15 p.m., and the Cocke County EMA says it remained an active fire at 1:29 a.m. the next day.
Scott Recycling specializes in the collection and disposal of computer equipment, peripherals and electronics, as well as in data destruction.
