Reconomy, a United Kingdom-based company focused on waste handling and recycling services, has acquired Vermilion Holdings Inc., a postconsumer product returns and recycling bins and services company based in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.

Earlier this month, Reconomy acquired Connecticut-based Lincoln Waste Solutions LLC, a provider of waste and recycling services that include consulting, hauler management and back office support.

“Following the recent acquisition of Lincoln, this transaction is another important strategic milestone for Reconomy as we accelerate our growth plans in the U.S.,” Reconomy CEO Guy Wakeley says. “It brings new customers, technology and specialist capabilities in the fast growing take-back solutions market to our existing Comply operations in North America.”

Regarding Vermilion Holdings, Reconomy says, “Established in 1976, Vermilion is the United States market leader in the take-back of postconsumer products. It manages the track and trace of materials from collection locations to approved sites for reuse, recycling or secure disposition using a proprietary technology platform and patented reverse logistics packaging and kiosk collection system."

Among Vermilion’s business units are American Security Cabinets (ASC), a maker of collection bins designed to provide for collecting a diverse range of items, including postconsumer materials; American RX Group (ARXG), which provides customized design, production, product fulfilment, track and trace of materials and end disposition solutions for pharmaceutical products; and its PPM division, a full-service marketing company.

“Vermilion adds new expertise in the take-back solutions market which represents an exciting area of growth as we expand further across the U.S. and North America," says Patrick Wiedemann, divisional CEO of Comply at Reconomy. "The scale of environmental compliance is accelerating internationally, creating complex challenges for brands, so we must continually add to our services to help businesses navigate this complex, changing landscape.”

Reconomy's Comply Loop division already serves more than 15,000 customers globally, including Fortune 500 brands.

“We are excited to join Reconomy at a time when it is achieving rapid and sustainable, international growth," Vermilion CEO Mike Pietrini says. "There are many opportunities to collaborate successfully with Reconomy’s Comply Loop as, together, we lead the way in environmental compliance management, take-back, collection and circularity solutions for end of life materials.”
