United Kingdom-based Reconomy has acquired East Hartford, Connecticut-based American Outsourced Waste and Recycling (AOWR) and says it will merge the firm’s operations into Bloomfield, Connecticut-based Lincoln Waste Solutions, which it already owns.

Reconomy describes AOWR as a waste management an outsourcing business “with a national network of more than 8,000 vendors and customers throughout the United States and Canada.”

AOWR provides its managed waste services to companies in the retail, entertainment, logistics and restaurant segments, according to Reconomy.

The U.K. firm calls AOWR its fifth U.S. acquisition via its Lincoln Waste Solutions business unit. The firm purchased Lincoln last year, and described it at that time as offering a "comprehensive, full-service management approach" to handle discarded materials.

Reconomy says the transaction also represents its third U.S. acquisition completed this year, following the acquisitions of Peekskill, New York-based Complete Solutions & Sourcing and Feeding Hills, Massachusetts-based Waste Focus, announced in January.

“This latest acquisition is another step on our journey to attain a leading position in the U.S. and reflects our commitment to allocate capital efficiently to where the most attractive opportunities lie,” says Guy Wakeley, CEO of Reconomy.

Continues Wakeley, “The strategic opportunities for growth across North America are significant. With resources being consumed faster than they can be replenished, businesses in the U.S. are increasingly recognizing the economic imperative of keeping resources in circulation and are turning to companies like ours to better manage their materials. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and to delivering value to all our stakeholders.”

Michael Williams, executive vice president of circular solutions, North America, at Reconomy, remarks, “This is a very exciting time for our North American business as we execute on our ambitious M&A strategy at pace to rapidly scale our waste management operations through our Lincoln Waste Solutions platform.”

Jack Eighmy, president of AOWR, says “I have been impressed by Reconomy and their clear ambition to become the leader in the U.S. waste and resource management market. Joining Lincoln Waste Solutions with the backing of Reconomy positions us well to deliver even better services to our customers and provide increased opportunities for growth with our hauler partners.”

Reconomy says it operates in more than 150 countries, with more than 4,000 employees serving international customers that include large brands in multiple sectors.
