Recology, a San Francisco-based employee-owned resource recovery company, has acquired Sunset Garbage Collection Inc., Portland, Oregon.
The hauling company, which employs 12 full-time employees, is now Recology Clackamas and serves 1,600 residential addresses in southeast Portland and 4,000 residential and commercial customers in Clackamas County. The business provides drop boxes and containers and collects food scraps from restaurants and other food-related businesses.
The sale, which closed Oct. 31, includes 18 collection vehicles, a 1.23-acre truck yard and offices in Portland.
“This is a local company with a great history of providing superior customer service,” Recology CEO Salvatore Coniglio says. “Their outstanding work and focus on recycling make this a great fit for Recology.”
Chris Carey, general manager of Recology’s Northern Oregon Operations, will oversee Recology Clackamas. Shawn LaMont is the operations manager.
According to Recology, Sunset Garbage was founded in 1919 and began as a one-man route in lower southeast Portland. In the 1950s, the business expanded its customer base into the city of Happy Valley and Clackamas County, which issued franchises to Sunset Garbage for all solid waste services in the county in 1970.
Coniglio says Recology Clackamas looks forward to continuing Sunset’s legacy of partnering closely with communities and customers to reduce waste and meet shared sustainability goals.
“We are committed to providing high-quality environmentally conscious service to our customers, and we are eager to work with the communities of Portland, Clackamas County and Happy Valley as we pursue a world without waste,” he says.
