QED Environmental Systems Inc., a subsidiary of Graco Inc. based in Dexter, Michigan, has announced the new SEM Rover. The company says the SEM Rover provides functional improvements to the LANDTEC SEM5000 methane detector for landfill surface emissions monitoring (SEM). The new tool is the result of collaboration with landfill operators in an attempt to improve efficiency, the company says in a news release.
The SEM Rover is a wheeled sampling wand to help comply with sampling regulations, regardless of terrain or field conditions. The SEM Rover is constructed of a lightweight, high-strength aluminum framework with a durable, high-visibility powder coat finish, QED says. The push handle is adjustable, and three large wheels maintain stability and ease transit over the ground as the SEM Rover holds the sample wand inlet 5 cm from the ground consistently. QED says the SEM Rover helps minimize operator fatigue and speed up sampling on fields where grounds are not regularly maintained.
Utilizing patented technology, QED says the SEM5000 methane detector has a short start-up time (less than two minutes) and no risk of flame-out and associated restart. There is no need to carry an external gas bottle during sampling, and most importantly, there is no open flame in a potentially explosive environment, the company says.
The SEM 5000 methane detector offers on-board GPS tracking, built-in memory for up to 450 hours of sampling and automatic report generation. The SEM Rover maintains proper sample probe height, orientation and shielding from transient wind as described in EPA Method 21 – Determination of Volatile Organic Compound Leaks. The collected sample data can be downloaded via Bluetooth connectivity to a PC to automatically generate standard compliance reports.
The SEM5000 methane detector and new SEM Rover make up a lightweight, ergonomic surface emissions monitoring package which weighs about half as much as competitive alternatives, QED says. For more information, visit QED online.Get curated news on YOUR industry.
