Pride Disposal, a Sherwood, Oregon-based waste and recycling company, recently unveiled new zero-emission collection trucks.

The Leichner family, owners of Pride Disposal, celebrated the delivery of the vehicles during a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 22.

“These fully electric trucks will primarily service residential households in Washington County. All electric trucks run quieter and have no emissions, which helps protect the communities they serve,” Pride Disposal officials said in a statement.

As reported by the Valley Times, Pride Disposal is the first privately owned garbage and recycling hauler to put the new Volterra ZSL trucks into service, with their first day of service April 23.

The new disposal trucks are expected to provide a “significant step forward in Pride Disposal’s sustainability efforts and commitment to advanced technology,” Pride Disposal owners said.

Designed and manufactured by McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing Inc., Dodge Center, Minnesota, the electric vehicles are expected to meet more stringent environmental regulations and hold zero-emission certifications from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

“The trucks also come with extensive safety features, including a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warnings and advanced emergency braking. The technology in these trucks will also improve the efficiency of Pride Disposal’s on-route collection,” says Pride Disposal officials.

Since 2011, according to the Valley Times, Pride Disposal has been converting its diesel trucks to compressed natural gas to reduce emissions.
