Nonprofit organization Planet Aid has announced the opening of two clothing donation centers in Findlay and Grafton, Ohio. Additionally, the organization has partnered with the Lorain County Collection Center, a one-stop, drive-through facility, to add Planet Aid bins that will accept most recyclable items.

Ohio residents will be able to donate their used textiles at three new locations, including Lorain County Collection Center at 540 S. Abbe Rd. in Elyria; Flag City Station at 2540 Tiffin Ave. in Findlay; and Albert’s Fresh Market at 460 Main St. in Grafton.

Made from refurbished shipping containers and designed to be weather- and tamper-resistant, Planet Aid donation centers help to keep used clothing and shoes out of landfills at no cost to the community, according to the organization. The donation centers boast solar-powered lighting and 24-hour video monitoring to provide safety and security for donors.

Planet Aid, Elkridge, Maryland, describes itself as a pioneer in textile reuse. Since its founding in 1997, the organization has collected more than 1.7 billion pounds of used clothes and shoes. Planet Aid uses funds raised from donated clothes to support community development initiatives in the U.S., Latin America, Asia and Africa. The donation centers are the latest effort by Planet Aid to provide cleaner, safer, more efficient and more convenient collection methods to generate more funds to support community development programs.

“Planet Aid is committed to creating a sustainable future for all,” says Planet Aid President and CEO Fred Olsson. “Our new donation centers in Ohio are a testament to our dedication to reducing textile waste, fostering community development and protecting the environment.”
