OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) hosted a household hazardous waste collection event Sept. 14 at the Huntington Beach Corporate Yard in Orange County, California. The event attracted over 500 vehicles and resulted in the collection of more than 32,000 pounds of hazardous materials, including 14,000 pounds of hazardous waste, more than 11,000 pounds of electronic waste and 7,200 pounds of latex paint.
OCWR says this turnout underscores the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and public health. The event provided residents with a convenient way to safely dispose of a wide range of materials, including household chemicals, automotive products, fluorescent light bulbs and various types of e-waste such as televisions, tablets and old cell phones.
Attendance at the Huntington Beach location increased by 94 percent, from an average of 172 vehicles during a typical Saturday operation to over 500 in just one day. This notable increase highlights the growing community participation and engagement. OCWR operates three additional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers in Anaheim, Irvine and San Juan Capistrano for those whose homes are not near Huntington Beach.
