The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), Arlington, Virginia, is celebrating Global Waste and Recycling Workers Week the week of the 17th.
According to NWRA, in 2020 it is especially important to recognize those in the industry because they have been working on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Considered essential by the Department of Homeland Security, scrap and recycling workers have been helping keep communities and the environment clean and safe.
“During this unprecedented global health crisis, waste and recycling collection workers remain on the job; they are vital,” says NWRA president and CEO Darrell Smith. “We know from history that without reliable waste collection, illness and disease can spread. We encourage everyone to take a moment this week to thank your waste collection worker.”
According to the NWRA, industry participants can celebrate Global Waste and Recycling Workers Week by:
- downloading the Waste and Recycling Workers Week profile picture to use on social media for the week of June 17th;
- Buying the Waste and Recycling Workers Week T-shirt;
- downloading a printable thank-you card for garbage workers;
- helping spread the word about Waste and Recycling Workers Week with a website badge; and
- visiting the Waste & Recycling Workers Week Wall of Honor.
