Stericycle executive earns Silver Stevie Award

Meg Moynihan, director of strategic marketing for Stericycle Environmental Solutions of Lake Forest, Illinois, has been named the winner of a Silver Stevie Award in the Most Innovative Woman of the Year category of the 16th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Stericycle is a provider of regulated waste services, including specialized solutions for compliant medication and sharps disposal.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs, employees and the companies they run worldwide. Winners were announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Nov. 15 in front of a room of female executives and entrepreneurs from across the U.S. and several other countries.

More than 1,500 entries were submitted this year for consideration in more than 90 categories, including Executive of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Company of the Year, Startup of the Year, Women Helping Women and Women-Run Workplace of the Year.

Moynihan’s award was the result of her critical role in combating the nation’s opioid epidemic by growing Stericycle’s award-winning consumer drug take back solutions, consisting of Seal&Send medication mail back envelopes and medication collection kiosks, the company says. To date, Stericycle has safely disposed of more than 85 million pounds of pharmaceutical waste.

Stericycle’s Seal&Send envelopes provide a safe, convenient option for consumers to dispose of their unused or expired drugs by filling a pre-addressed envelope with up to 8 ounces of pharmaceutical waste and dropping it into any USPS mailbox. Similarly, its medication collection kiosks offer a reliable, anonymous outlet for consumers to dispose of unwanted drugs in a safe place within their communities. Stericycle kiosks are now in 47 states with continued plans for growth.

Moynihan was also a key player in establishing Stericycle’s relationship with the National Safety Council (NSC) for its “Stop Everyday Killers” campaign aimed at putting a stop to the opioid epidemic. Stericycle was the exclusive medication disposal partner for the memorial, which has stopped at seven cities since 2017.

Most recently, Moynihan led Stericycle’s partnership with the NSC to launch its free Opioids at Work Employer Toolkit, which focuses on safety and includes information and resources for four specific groups found in a typical workplace setting: supervisors, human resource professionals, safety professionals and employees.
