Tinton Falls, New Jersey-based Mazza Recycling has acquired Liberty Waste & Recycling of Moorestown, New Jersey. Mazza Recycling, which operates in east central New Jersey, says the acquisition “will serve as a platform for the Mazza family of companies to expand their market area to the Philadelphia suburbs.”
“We are excited to be able to acquire a company of Liberty’s reputation and caliber and we look forward to building on what they have already accomplished,” Mazza Recycling President and CEO James Mazza Jr. says.
“We welcome Steve Dickey, Rick Jenkins and the rest of the crew to the Mazza team. Now it’s our job to spread the Liberty brand across South Jersey, the Mazza way.”
Mazza Recycling says its acquisition of Liberty Waste & Recycling aligns with its strategy to build relationships and expand its service areas across south and central New Jersey. The acquisition also positions Mazza Recycling “as an attractive partner for potential acquisitions down the line,” according to the company.
“The purchase of Liberty Waste & Recycling marks a pivotal moment in our growth strategy,” says Dominick J. Mazza Jr., executive vice president at Mazza Recycling. “This expansion allows us to extend the exceptional value we offer to our existing customers into a new territory as well as opening doors to exciting new opportunities.
“The timing of this acquisition could not be more favorable, as our company is well prepared with the resources, expertise and the strategic vision necessary to successfully integrate this acquisition and drive sustainable growth.”
Liberty Waste & Recycling was "built from the ground up" by Steven Dickey and Rick Jenkins, the former co-owners of the company, and it grew by primarily focusing on building relationships with haulers, waste brokers and other waste management companies.
“Selling a business can always be a tough decision to make as a small business owner,” Dickey says. “My main concern was making sure my employees would have a great company to work for and my customers would be able to receive the outstanding service that my team has built. Adding Liberty to the Mazza family was really a no-brainer. Mazza Recycling has the experience and leadership that my company can easily merge into. I am more than excited for my team to work along with the entire Mazza group of companies.”
Dickey will take on the role of business development manager for the Liberty division of Mazza Recycling. His former business partner, Jenkins, will assume the role of general manager in the same region, continuing to oversee operations in Gloucester, Camden and Burlington counties in southern New Jersey.

Solving For Contamination Through Better Education
Education is a key component in reaching zero waste goals, yet many communities struggle without the help of a digital tool. Traditional methods can only communicate so much, are tough to keep updated, and create barriers for residents looking for the information they need.

It has always been a goal of mine to keep moving forward with growth and technology, allowing us to offer the best customer experience. Coming together with the Mazza team will help us strengthen that ability.”
Financing for the acquisition was provided by Comerica Bank, with the Mazza Recycling co-owners saying the transaction hopefully will kick-start many more for the company.
