Austria-based Lindner Recyclingtech says a shredding system it has sold to construction materials producer Cemex is helping it convert tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) and commercial waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF).
The shredder is producing RDF for Cemex subsidiary Regenera Mexico. That firm, according to Lindner, has diverted more than 4.9 million metric tons of municipal, industrial and commercial waste from landfills since 2012.
Lindner works with its Mexico-based sales and service partner GTA Ambiental to actively support the effort with its onsite recycling machinery and service.
“We chose Lindner because these shredders can be used and installed flexibly without any major changes to our facilities,” says José Guillermo Díaz Arroyo, director at Regenera. “We were also looking for robust machines capable of processing the different types of waste we receive, and, at the same time, an after-sales service team that ensures continuous plant operation. That’s what Lindner and its sales and service partner GTA Ambiental provide onsite reliably and at the highest possible standard.”
Lindner says Regenera has committed itself to collecting and recovering waste, establishing more than 10 waste collection centers in Mexico. While some materials can be mechanically recycled, others are used to produce RDF.
Regenera produces its RDF at a waste recovery facility in Monterrey in northern Mexico. The RDF made is produced specifically for energy recovery in cement plants and must meet criteria tied to density, energy and moisture content and particle size.
Lindner makes shredders, including stationary and mobile models for waste processing and systems for plastic recycling, wood processing and RDF and solid recovered fuel production.
