Arthur Lawrence Colley, a surety professional for the waste industry, died Jan. 30 at age 60.
Colley was born in 1963 and grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, the youngest of seven siblings. He graduated from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
He became a surety bonds producer following an initial professional training program at Chubb, an insurance company with American offices in New Jersey. There, he met his wife, Nicole Montealegre. Their two adult sons, Arthur Lawrence Jr. and Clayton, were raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the family has lived the past 28 years.
Colley worked at NFP Corp., an insurance company based in New York, specializing in working with waste industry companies throughout North America with revenues ranging from $2 million to more than $5 billion.
He was active in local and national solid waste industry associations. Colley was recognized within the industry for providing exceptional customer service, his reputation for integrity and respect, his specialized knowledge of the surety and waste industries and securing competitive pricing and favorable terms and conditions for his customers.
Colley is survived by his wife; their sons; and six siblings: Amy Colley, Beth Colley Brooks, Robert Bryan, Roberta Berg, Suzanne O'Keeffe and John Bryan.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church in Charlotte on Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. and interment will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, North Carolina.
