Green Building Research Institute (GBRI), Forest Hills, New York, has announced its latest course series, “Breaking Ground: The Future of Green Building,” has been approved by both Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Washington, to provide Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and AIA professionals with continuing education (CE) credits.
Professionals who complete a course are eligible to receive 30 GBCI-approved CE hours and 28 AIA-approved health, safety and welfare (HSW) learning units (LUs), including six LEED-specific CE hours. GBRI says a wide range of topics will be covered in the course, including: LEED v4, WELL Building Standard; Healthcare and School Certification Projects; Biomimicry; Building Level Energy and Water Metering, Ecotourism, Sustainability in the Supply Chain; and additional related topics.
Delivered virtually live and in an on-demand format, the courses give professionals up to two full years in which to complete the curriculum, making it easy to complete the CE requirements required to maintain LEED or AIA credentials, according to GBRI.
“As professionals with decades of experience in green building and design, we understand that it’s not easy to find the time for a course when you’re in the midst of projects,” says Kayla Gerstenberg, GBRI’s director of education. “To meet the needs of those in this field, our students can participate in our courses online, at times that are most convenient to them.”
GBRI courses give professionals the ability to pause and stop anywhere and, upon returning, pick up right where they left off. Though finding LEED and AIA CE courses that meet the requirements of both the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and AIA can be confusing, GBRI says, it makes it easy by having achieved preapproval through both organizations. In an initiative to make the process seamless for their students, complimentary autoreporting to both organizations is provided, according to GBRI.
GBRI’s Director of Sustainability Jeslin Varghese, adds, “We value the high-caliber work that our students, who are architects, engineers and green building professionals, do on a daily basis—and, in turn, we have taken great care to provide them with quality educational opportunities from the industry’s most qualified instructors.”
GBRI says it takes an interactive approach to education, seeking to engage students rather than to fall back on the standard plain presentation that is the most commonly used method for providing LEED and AIA CE credits. Interested professionals can visit the GBRI website to learn more or sign up for the mailing list to stay informed of new opportunities.
