GFL Environmental acquires Sprint Waste Services

GFL Environmental Inc., an environmental services company based in Vaughn, Ontario, has announced the acquisition of Sprint Waste Services, Sugar Land, Texas, a vertically integrated network of solid waste assets across 14 sites in Texas and two sites in Louisiana, including two C&D landfills in Houston. Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  

Sprint Waste says it offers a comprehensive suite of specialized service solutions, supported by a fleet of more than 400 vehicles and 8,000 rental containers. It also has an integrated facility network that enables the company to deliver end-to-end waste and environmental solutions.  

On its website, Sprint says it is “committed to responsible recycling and disposal of your waste. We operate our own construction and debris landfills in southwest Houston and near Conroe, [Texas], as well as a standalone recycling facility in Port Arthur, Texas.”

“The acquisition of Sprint Waste provides us with a unique opportunity to acquire a vertically integrated, complementary set of assets, while further densifying our solid waste footprint within the Southern United States,” says Patrick Dovigi, founder and CEO of GFL. “We are excited to welcome the more than 500 Sprint Waste employees to the GFL family.”  

GFL says the business has been owned and operated by Joseph Swinbank and his family for about 15 years. The company says he and his sons, Will and Reagan Swinbank, will continue to support the business going forward as both consultants and shareholders of GFL.  

In addition to the acquisition of Sprint Waste, GFL has completed 20 acquisitions across multiple geographies, the majority of which were small tuck-in acquisitions, since the beginning of 2022. These acquisitions are expected to contribute about $300 million in aggregate annualized revenue.
