Friedman Recycling Co., Phoenix, has entered into a contract with the city of Flagstaff, Arizona, to provide equipment, transportation, processing and recovery of recyclables in the city. The term of the agreement is six months, with two three-month extensions possible.
Under the agreement, Friedman will provide compactors and containers that will be loaded by city staff at the Flagstaff Recycling Transfer Facility for subsequent transportation by Friedman to the Phoenix area. The city states the compactors will help maximize hauling weights and limit the number of shipments and associated carbon footprint of the city’s recyclables. Friedman will haul the compacted recyclables to its material recovery facility in Phoenix and will process the materials and transport the sorted recyclabes to mills and other consumers to turn into new products.
According to a news release from the city of Flagstaff, the agreement will ensure that the city’s recyclables are recycled properly and have end markets. The city says it will develop a formal solicitation over the coming months to seek a longer-term arrangement to maintain and enhance the city’s recycling transportation and processing needs.
