Florida Recycling Partnership welcomes new board members

Organization’s board includes representatives from Marpan Recycling, Florida Ports Council and Bealls.

The Florida Recycling Partnership (FRP), a Tallahassee, Florida-based coalition of companies that develop and adopt sustainable business practices that not only promote recycling but also reduce and reuse resources, has welcomed three new members to its board:

  • Andrew Williams, vice present of Marpan Recycling, Tallahassee, is the third generation of his family to work in the business. He has experienced every facet of the organization from container maintenance to commercial truck and heavy equipment operation to overseeing daily hauling and recycling operations. He has been with the company, which offers a suite of services to the greater Tallahassee area through its container rental and hauling division, recycling plants and safety supply store, since 2000.
  • Doug Wheeler serves as president and CEO of the Florida Ports Council (FPC), a nonprofit that is the professional association for Florida’s 15 public seaports and their management. The FPC provides leadership, advocacy and information on seaport-related issues before the legislative and executive branches of state and federal government. He has more than 20 years of governmental affairs and association leadership at the state and federal levels, having held previous positions with Associated Builders and Contractors, and more recently, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, where he served as vice president of grassroots advocacy and political action development.
  • Karl Berven is director of corporate sales for Bealls, a retailer founded in Bradenton, Florida, that today has 575 stores. His career began with Oregon-based retailer Fred Meyer Stores and continued with this retailer while attending Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. He also worked as a corporate trainer with Thriftway Stores before relocating to South Australia, where he accepted an advisory position with Independent Grocers Cooperative (IGC), the largest grocery cooperative in the southern hemisphere, to implement and oversee store conversions to scanning systems. Bervin also worked in the industrial engineering department for Safeway Stores. He became a member of Professional Retail Store Management (PRSM) in 2010 and has participated as a guest speaker and moderator during the PRSM National Conferences. Additionally, Berven wrote an article published in the PRSM Best Practices book regarding retailer recycling best practices.

The new board members will serve FRP for the 2018-2018 term, says Board Chair Dawn McCormick, director of communications for Waste Management.

Kim Brunson, recycle and solid waste manager for Publix Super Markets, has also been elected to serve as secretary/treasurer.

Keyna Cory continues to serve as the organization’s executive director.
