The Florida Composting Council is hosting a Composting Workshop on Jan. 14 at two organics composting locations in South Florida: Fertile Earth Worms in Homestead, Florida, and Lion Farms in Miami.
The event, held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is a hands-on workshop designed for gardeners, homeowners, city and county municipalities, commercial food scrap producers, and anyone interested in reducing waste and enriching their soil through composting.
Attendees will be presented with information on several aspects of composting in Florida, including choosing the right composting method for your needs and proper techniques for building and maintaining a compost pile, according to the Florida Composting Council.
Also addressed will be the science behind composting and how it benefits the environment and troubleshooting common composting issues particular to South Florida.
Tours of both farms will be offered (including the mushroom growing facility at Lion Farms) and lunch and beverages will be provided.
“The future for zero waste Miami is starting right now,” says Dr. Lanette Sobel, founder of Fertile Earth Worm Farm. “Our goal with this workshop is to empower the community to adopt sustainable practices and make a positive impact on the environment.”
“We are very excited to co-host this composting workshop," Lion Farms owner Peter Fedele adds. "The more we talk about sustainability and about our love for our planet, the more people will help heal our soils. It’s the only way forward.”
