Austria-based plastics extrusion and recycling equipment maker Erema Group GmbH has reported 2022 financial year sales of around 355 million euros ($392 million), tied to the delivery of 350 extruders globally. The company’s financial year ran from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.

Erema says its machinery delivered in fiscal year 2022 creates “an additional recycling capacity for 1.6 million metric tons of recycled pellets as a result," and notes its portfolio of companies, which includes Erema, Pure Loop, UMAC, 3S, Keycycle and Plasmac, are “in a strong position for their planned ongoing growth.”

“With demand for recycled plastics remaining high, the past financial year brought many challenges that we needed to handle,” Erema Group CEO Manfred Hackl says. "The company says those challenges included persistent delays in the supply chain and unexpected supplier outages. Erema says the situation “has improved significantly” as a result of measures it took and a more stable supply chain situation.

The Erema business unit production locations in Austria manufactured 270 extruders and delivered them to customers around the world. “Taking the whole group into consideration, this figure rises to 350, including the extruders from Plasmac [Erema Group’s Italy-based subsidiary]," the company says.

The company launched seven new recycling systems and components at the K 2022 trade fair in Germany. “For the first time, we brought all the companies in the group together on one stand, so we were able to provide an excellent overview of our wide range of products and services with the latest innovations as a one-stop-shop concept,” Hackl says.

New products included the new Intarema TVEplus DuaFil compact recycling system and the EcoGentle plasticising unit. “Thanks to their gentle polymer treatment and significantly lower melt temperature, both extrusion innovations deliver effective advantages in terms of the quality of the melt, recycled pellets, and final product, as well as impressive energy efficiency in postconsumer and PET recycling applications,” the company says.

The beginning of the new financial year falls close to the company’s 40th anniversary date. “On April 14, 1983, Helmut Bacher, Helmuth Schulz and Georg Wendelin founded Erema Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen GesmbH, laying the foundation for the 40-year success story,” the company says.

Erema credits its founders, their successors and the company’s employees with having “not only developed plastics recycling further, but [also making] recycling possible in new applications, successfully making the journey from working out of a garage to becoming the world market leader.”

“While continuing on this course, we will also take this anniversary year as an opportunity to host various celebrations and thank our customers, partners and team of employees for their trust and commitment," Hackl says.

One such event will be the Erema Discovery Day at the company headquarters in Ansfelden on June 1. The event will feature live insights into the latest postconsumer and PET recycling technologies will also see the official opening of the newly built research and development center.
