Epax Systems releases waste compactor

Epax Systems Inc., Panorama City, California, has released the Ropax Roto-Compactor to compact recyclables and waste at the point of generation. 

Using a rotating drum with metal teeth, the machine shreds and compacts materials, including carboard boxes, produce crates, plastics and polystyrene. As the drum rotates, it swivels while keeping items under constant pressure to ensure maximum compaction, the company says. 

Two models are available: Bin Packers and Bag Packers. Bin Packers compact waste into the included 1.5 cubic yard steel container with casters. Epax says the built-in fork sleeves on the container facilitate easy collection via front loading waste collection trucks. Bag Packers compact and bale waste into 370-gallon plastic bags that sit on a 48-inch by 40-inch pallet. When bags are full, they can be removed by a hand pallet jack and sealed to create a self-contained bale.   

Both systems use a pull-down mail style feed opening. This design serves the dual purpose of keeping users a safe distance from the compaction drum while also providing a shelf from which to feed waste, the company says. Items can be fed continuously during the compaction process.  

According to Epax, Ropax Roto-Compactors require little space and no structural alterations to facilities. The company says they are ideal for use in warehouses and distribution centers, supermarkets, department stores, hospitals, hotels and conference centers.
