The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) reports that more than 300 sanitation personnel worked to remove hundreds of thousands of pounds of confetti and debris in Times Square following the 2024 New Year’s Eve ball drop.

In the hours after 1 million revelers watched the ball drop in Times Square, 284 sanitation workers and 42 officers using 45 mechanical brooms, 64 hand brooms, 63 backpack blowers and 33 collection trucks, along with brooms and backpack blowers, picked up litter, confetti and party hats beginning the moment the clock struck midnight. Last year, sanitation crews picked up more than 53 tons of debris.
