After a successful collection Oct. 22, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. (RIRRC) and National Grid again invite Rhode Island residents to recycle old, functional dehumidifiers at Johnston’s upcoming Eco-Depot collection Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at RIRRC’st 65 Shun Pike location in Johnston. This special event is available to National Grid customers only and coincides with RIRRC’s household hazardous waste collection. To help reduce time spent in line, appointments should be made in advance for household hazardous waste. Appointments are not required to turn in a dehumidifier.
Residents who participate in Saturday’s event will receive a $30 recycling incentive rebate and a $30 mail-in rebate toward a new energy-efficient dehumidifier. National Grid will cover the cost of recycling. Residents must have ID for proof of residency and must complete a rebate form. Households are limited to two humidifiers.
“Just like Eco-Depot, the dehumidifier turn-in event is free, fast and easy,” says Joe Rotella, RIRRC special waste manager. “We hope residents take this opportunity to safely dispose of their old dehumidifiers and also enjoy the financial incentives generously provided by National Grid.”
In addition to dehumidifiers, household hazardous waste will be accepted at this Eco-Depot collection. Created in 2001, the Eco-Depot program is a free service offered by RIRRC that provides for the proper handling, packaging, storage, transportation and disposal of household hazardous waste. Since its inception, RIRRC has collected approximately 10.6 million pounds of household hazardous waste and served more than 148,000 Rhode Islanders by offering numerous collection dates and events held at several municipal locations throughout the state.
This upcoming collection in Johnston is one of 46 Eco-Depot collections RIRRC will provide throughout the state in 2016. To make an appointment for the collection or to view the entire 2016 Eco-Depot schedule, visit www.ecodepotri.org or call 401-942-1430, ext. 241.
