CIWM preparing for March event in Ireland

Conference and exhibition will focus on waste management in Ireland.

The United Kingdom-based Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is preparing to bring its conference and exhibition format to the Eikon Exhibition Centre near Belfast in Northern Ireland in early 2017.

The one-day conference and exhibition event takes place Wednesday, March 29, 2017, and is being designed to combine conference programming with a 5,000-square metre (53,800 square feet) exhibition area, “bringing together technologies, machinery, experts [and] decision makers from across Europe,” says CIWM.

The exhibition area “will showcase the latest equipment and vehicles from the industry,” says CIWM, while the conference programming is being designed to focus on a range of topics including recycling and re-use, winter maintenance, street sweeping, waste collection and treatment and other “important information about the newest industry regulations.”

In addition to visiting as many as 100 exhibit stands, delegates will have a chance to “stroll down memory lane, [to] see a unique display of vintage waste management vehicles from 1922 through 1980,” says CIWM.

“This unique event will provide the forum for delegates to gain valuable knowledge and insight into the latest plant and innovative technologies available on the market,” says Tony Law, chair of the CIWM-Northern Ireland. “Delegates will be informed on the legislative impacts of the food waste regulations and other pertinent regulations affecting our waste, manufacturing and hospitality sectors.”

Law says speakers will deliver keynote addresses covering topics such as the impact of Brexit and pertinent hazardous and food waste regulations. He is encouraging delegates from both the public and private sectors to attend the event.

“We have been waiting for an opportune time to host an event on this scale, and people will be coming from all over the U.K. and Ireland, so we will provide hospitality on arrival before they make their way around the exhibition,” says Raymond Martin, regional development officer for CIWM.
