Bruin Waste Management, a Colorado-based waste management company, is expanding with a new division focused on advanced recycling and materials sortation, The Daily Sentinel reports.
Supported by Colorado’s Rural Jump-Start Program, the expansion is championed by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) and the Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP).
Located in Grand Junction, Colorado, Bruin Waste’s new division will provide services that were previously only available regionally in Utah, reducing transportation costs for those on the Western Slope.
Bruin Waste plans to introduce state-of-the-art sortation technology in the facility, including artificial intelligence- (AI-) driven systems, to improve recycling efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and shorten regional supply chain costs.
Facility plans also include a community viewing room to educate students, residents and stakeholders on modern recycling practices and environmental responsibility.

“We are thrilled to partner with the city of Grand Junction to bring this critical infrastructure to the Western Slope,” says Bruin Waste President and CEO Jeff Kendall in a statement. “The lack of recycling infrastructure in the region has really constrained the recycling rates over the last few years and is preventing communities from meeting their sustainability goals. The support we are getting from the Rural Jump-Start program will support this mission, and we are grateful for the partnership of OEDIT and GJEP.”
The new division will be headquartered on a 10.5-acre parcel, home to a former Haliburton property that is being converted to a modern material recovery facility (MRF). The facility is expected to create up to 30 new primary jobs, according to the report.
“We’re proud to partner with Bruin Waste and expand recycling efforts across the Western Slope,” says Grand Junction Mayor Abe Herman in a statement. “The MRF will expand access to recycling services not only for Grand Junction residents but surrounding communities as well, with Grand Junction as a central hub and innovative leader in this area. By expanding recycling services, we divert more waste from landfills, save taxpayer money, reduce environmental impacts and create lasting change for our community.”
