Brentwood, California, has started the process of developing a high-diversion organics recycling facility, reports East County Today.
The city is currently pursuing approval of a memorandum of understanding with Burlington, Ontario-based Anaergia to construct a facility to assist the city in meeting organics waste disposal requirements as required under S.B. 1383.

According to a staff report, if the organics processing technology is determined to be a good fit for Brentwood, city officials will begin looking into how the project will be funded. The current options are a fee-for-service arrangement with no capital outlay or securing $40 million in financing from grants, loans or bond funding. The project feasibility analysis will explore each option.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed by April 2023, with final approval expected by October 2023.
