Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based BioD Technology says it has sent its first bulk shipment of UAE-refined biodiesel fuel to Europe. BioD uses a waste-to-energy conversion process to make its product.

The company says after commissioning a refinery with 100 metric tons per day of capacity in Dubai’s Jebel-Ali Free Zone early this year, its deliveries of “sustainable, waste-to-energy-based biodiesel made in the UAE have started to flow to Europe.”

According to BioD, mandates in the EU require traffic diesel fuel in some applications to have a minimum bio component blended into it.

“I’m delighted to send off the first sizeable batch of our International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified biodiesel to demanding customers in Europe,” states Shiva Vig, founder and CEO of BioD Technology.

“The supply chain problem, which is a global phenomenon the recent months, has forced us to think out of the box and to find alternative solutions to ISO or Flexi containers,” says Vig. “Tri-party cooperation between us, our trading partners, Biogra and Star Energy Oiltanking in Jebel-Ali, ensured that we are able to serve our European customers with efficient bulk shipments.”

Serving customers in EU is the first stage in BioD Technology’s strategy, according to the company. With enhanced capacity, BioD plans to add customers in the UAE and the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region, including those in the maritime industry, where carbon reductions require ship owners to add biodiesel components into their bunker fuels.
