When Sean Mahon stepped in to lead Columbia, Maryland-based ASAP Site Services in 2018, he wanted to provide a consolidated, digital solution to help site services customers fulfill all their needs.
“Before joining ASAP, I was with McKinsey & Co., overseeing sales channels strategies," he says. "While there, I saw the benefit of distributors that were able to collect suppliers, bring them together in one place to make things simple for customers.
“With temporary site services, we saw there was a highly fragmented hauler base with a limited service scope. There are construction companies with locations across the United States. If you have four locations, you have many haulers you have to coordinate. You want that consolidation. Purchasing officers want a digital solution to purchase these items from one location. But that did not exist.”
To meet those needs of construction companies and other customers with temporary site needs, ASAP Site Services has launched an online marketplace for commercial and residential customers to find reliable, cost-effective sources to rent dumpsters, portable toilets, fencing and other services.
The marketplace, ASAPmarketplace.com, provides what the company calls a one-stop-shopping experience for customers who need home project and construction site services.
“People are used to booking their travel and accommodations through online marketplaces. We believe it’s time for a similar one-stop-shop marketplace for temporary site rentals,” Mahon says. “Until now, customers were forced to rent with blinders on, either paying premium prices to a national firm or rolling the dice with a local firm that they found on Google. By using ASAPmarketplace.com, customers can find whatever they need, wherever they need it on one site, with professional guidance and support from industry pros to help them make the right choice.”
To rent a product, customers insert key information—including city or ZIP code, type of service needed and desired delivery date—and ASAPmarketplace.com identifies reliable local providers and the estimated price for the rental. Customers who want additional information about product options or guidance for the rental can connect with an ASAP Site Services advisor, who will work with the customer to understand specific needs of each site and manage delivery details.
“We walk them through from start to finish,” says Rick Dempsey, director of marketing and strategy at ASAP Site Services. “We don’t want them to make a costly mistake; we make sure they are making an informed decision, seeing what prices are in that market and that they have the right product for the job site.”
According to ASAP Site Services, its online marketplace supports a variety of customers, including small to mid-size contractors and construction firms that need to rent dumpsters, roll-off containers, temporary fencing and portable restrooms for job sites; residential customers in need of toilets for backyard events or dumpsters for home construction projects; and event planners in need of portable restrooms, tents and temporary fencing for special functions.
ASAP Site Services says it has relationships with more than 5,000 vetted providers, including haulers, across the United States. The company says its providers benefit from an additional source of customers. The new online marketplace also ensures customers that haulers have the proper insurance and W9s on file and that the companies will be responsive.
