Arrow Sanitary Services, a Portland, Oregon-based business unit of Waste Connections, says its staff members helped assemble 15 bicycles to donate to the organization Play, Grow, Learn, which it describes as being “dedicated to healthy opportunities for sheltered and underserved youth in the community.”
Play, Grow, Learn is based in Gresham, Oregon, near Portland, and the bicycles delivered by Arrow Sanitary were accompanied by safety helmets.
In a letter to employees and customers, Arrow Sanitary District Manager Josh Brown said this year’s bicycle giveaway was reduced in scale because of COVID-19 restrictions, so the company has tried to find other ways to give back to the community.
“Because of this year’s historic wildfires and the impact it has left on our community, Arrow Sanitary Service decided to give $1,000 to the Estacada [Oregon] Area Food Bank to help our neighbors still struggling there,” Brown writes.
“We also chose to support the underrepresented Rockwood/East County [Oregon] community, where the need is great,” he continues. “Arrow Sanitary Service made a monetary donation to the Rockwood Boys and Girls Club. We wholeheartedly believe in the work the organization is doing.”
Brown says Arrow Sanitary Services employees have spent the past several months collecting donated food that will be forwarded to the Oregon Food Bank in late December.
Brown says, “We are very excited to be able to give back to the communities we are fortunate to serve. 2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for so many of us. Having the ability to help a family during such a difficult time is very rewarding. I am very proud of our team, our customers and most importantly our vendors who donated to our holiday promise. We could not make this event successful without their support.”
