National Recovery Technologies (NRT), the Nashville, Tennessee-based optical sorting subsidiary of Bulk Handling Systems (BHS), Eugene, Oregon, has launched the SpydIR-HS optical sorter, which it describes as a near-infrared (NIR) platform with multiple technological advancements. Some of its features include:

  • NIR identification of multiple plastic types with its hyperspectral imaging (HSI) camera
  • the ability to remove cardboard, paper and other fiber from a container stream
  • factory calibration made possible by the machine’s HSI technology and NRT’s software algorithms that save owners from having to routinely calibrate the machine
  • an In-Flight Sorting technology, which detects and ejects material while in midair, eliminating motion-related errors and belt interference while boosting purity levels
