Clean Harbors adds co-CEOs to board of directors

Clean Harbors, a Norwell, Massachusetts-based provider of environmental and industrial services, has announced that Michael Battles and Eric Gerstenberg, the company's co-CEOs, have joined the company’s board of directors.

“Eric and Mike are talented, proven executives with lengthy track records of valuable contributions to Clean Harbors,” says Alan S. McKim, Clean Harbors founder, executive chairman and chief technology officer.

The company’s board was expanded to 13 members in conjunction with these appointments.

Gerstenberg joined Clean Harbors in 1989. Before being named co-CEO, he was the company’s chief operating officer, responsible for the environmental sales and service organization and all of its facilities including incinerators and re-refineries. He also oversaw the majority of its workforce.

Battles joined Clean Harbors in 2013 as chief accounting officer after a long career in public accounting at Deloitte & Touche and as a finance leader at Perkin-Elmer Inc.

He was promoted to chief financial officer (CFO) in 2016 and became co-CEO in 2023. During his tenure as the company’s CFO, he oversaw the entire finance organization, including multiple debt raises and refinancings and taking on some strategic and operational oversight.

Battles is also a member of Casella’s board of directors. He received a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Vermont and is a certified public accountant.



LRS appoints CFO

LRS, a Rosemont, Illinois-based independent waste and recycling services provider, has appointed Dan Goldstein to chief financial officer (CFO).

Goldstein, who has served as interim CFO since May, brings more than two decades of experience in finance, procurement and mergers and acquisitions within the waste industry.

“Dan has been instrumental in navigating the financial complexities of our industry and has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of the strategic drivers behind our growth,” LRS CEO Matt Spencer says. “His leadership style aligns perfectly with our vision for the future, and I am thrilled to have him officially on board as our CFO.”

Goldstein holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the  University of Illinois.

“Dan’s reputation in the industry speaks volumes,” says Kevin Walbridge, LRS board member. “His ability to drive financial success while fostering purposeful partnerships is second to none.”

Goldstein’s previous experience includes roles with Synagro, Baltimore; WCA Waste, Houston; and Stericycle, Bannockburn, Illinois.



Waga Energy welcomes new sales director

Landfill gas-to-energy technology provider Waga Energy, based in France, has appointed Yann Pierre as group sales director as of mid-August.

“I am thrilled to join Waga Energy, an innovative company that has become a global leading RNG [renewable natural gas] producer in less than a decade and whose values of daring, commitment, cooperation and expertise I fully share,” Pierre says.

He reports to Waga CEO Mathieu Lefebvre and heads up all sales activities, including business development, RNG sales, contract management and marketing, and has been tasked with accelerating the group’s growth across international markets.

“I am delighted to welcome Yann Pierre, whose contribution to developing the RNG industry and his personal commitment to the energy transition and the fight against global warming I greatly appreciate,” Lefebvre says. “His unique expertise, combined with his international sales and marketing experience, will take Waga Energy to a new milestone in its growth.”

Pierre has been involved in environmental services, RNG and waste-to-energy industry for more than 20 years. Prior to joining Waga Energy, he was a sales director at Minnesota-based water treatment products company Pentair.

From 2014 to 2022, Pierre served as director of operations and then sales director at Prodeval, a France-based producer and distributor of anaerobic digestion equipment for the treatment and recovery of biogas.
