FCC secures fifth recycling contract in Texas

FCC Environmental Services, the U.S. subsidiary of Madrid-based FCC Group, has been awarded a contract to provide processing and marketing services for recyclables from the city of Mesquite, Texas. The contract is valued at approximately $1.5 million for a period of up to five years.

The city of Mesquite has a population of 145,000 and is one of the 10 largest cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Including Dallas, Garland, Mesquite and University Park, FCC will now provide recycling services for 2 million north Texas residents.

With this latest contract, FCC says it has ensured 75,000 tons of recyclables for 2017 in its recently opened material recovery facility (MRF) in Dallas.

The Mesquite contract marks the seventh FCC has signed in the past two years in the U.S. It is the fifth contract for FCC in the state of Texas. To date, the backlog relating to these contracts stands at around $562 million, FCC Environmental says.

The first contracts awarded to FCC in Texas include those for the transportation of biosolid waste in Houston; the construction and management of a new MRF at the McCommas Bluff Landfill in south Dallas; and the treatment and commercialization of all recyclables in University Park.

Furthermore, FCC recently has been awarded two municipal solid waste (MSW) collection contracts in Florida’s Polk and Orange counties.

FCC Group has a history stretching back more than 100 years across the environmental services, infrastructure and water management industries.

The company’s environment division currently provides services to more than 59 million people in 13 countries. FCC Group has a network comprising more than 200 recycling and treatment plants and 10 energy-from-waste conversion projects, with a capacity of more than 2.6 million tons.
