An ‘industrial accident’ at a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, waste incinerator left one man in need of medical care, reports PennLive.
Harrisburg fire chief Brian Enterline was able to confirm that the incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, was not a fire, though Harrisburg Fire Department was on the scene along with other emergency personnel.
“There was an industrial accident at the incinerator,” Enterline said. “I can tell you that there was one male injured, that was transported to the hospital. Harrisburg Fire, Harrisburg Police, and Community Life Team EMS [were] all on scene, and the patient was transported to the hospital.”
Enterline said he was unable to say more, due to the involvement of EMS and out of concern for the medical confidentiality of the man who was injured. Harrisburg Fire personnel were clear of the scene by 4:15 p.m.
The Harrisburg incinerator is owned by the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority and operated by New Jersey-based Covanta. A representative from Covanta was not immediately available for comment, according to PennLive.
