With no end in sight to urban sprawl, additional and stricter regulations being rolled out every day, and lawsuits becoming more common and expensive to defend, the challenges facing landfill operators can be daunting. However, these obstacles do not have to be faced alone. For over a decade, Byers Scientific has been the company landfills seek out for solutions to the toughest odor challenges.
Better community relationships begin with being a better neighbor.
For landfills, the strength of their relationship with their surrounding communities often comes down to one issue—odor management. In the eyes of much of the public, landfills are a necessary evil. One which they will tolerate as long as they can turn a blind eye. However, turning a blind nose is more difficult.
The future of landfill odor control has evolved:
Monitor-Predict-React-Prevent.
Fortunately, for customers of Byers Scientific, their landfills have access to a powerful new tool to help keep the peace. Introducing Byers Scientific’s newest technological advancement in landfill odor control, monitoring-based automated operation (MAO).
The MAO feature is intended for after-hours when landfill operations have ceased, daily cover has been applied and odor control systems would typically be powered down.
Predictive modeling makes preventing odors easier.
How it works:
For MAO-enabled Byers Scientific Vapor-Phase odor control systems, the Cloud-based SCADA platform will be standing by awaiting a signal from the Envirosuite (EVS) OMNIS software platform to automatically begin operating.
The EVS OMNIS platform simultaneously monitors several key MET variables and has a demonstrated ability to accurately forecast potential odor events relevant to neighboring communities.
With MAO, once a multi-hour potential odor event is identified by OMNIS, the Byers Scientific odor control system(s), such as the HPII23M mobile Vapor-Phase system, can react and respond, autonomously, with preventative odor control action to help mitigate potential odor events from occurring in the landfill setting.
Real-time environmental monitoring combined with cutting-edge predictive modeling for automated operation of odor control systems can address and minimize the risk of potential impacts before they happen.
More than odor control.
Byers Scientific recognizes that it is not just odor on the minds of solid waste operators. With pressure on landfill gas (LFG) management companies and municipalities to optimize initial and ongoing investments in LFG collection infrastructure and processing facilities—for both compliance and revenue generation—, the industry is seeking a clearer picture of emissions that are not being captured. Byers Scientific has been exploring the use of real-time surrogate gas monitoring via EVS sensor networks as a way to optimize LFG identification and collection capability in real time. Byers can help landfill operators keep money from disappearing into thin air.
Modern odor control is more accessible than ever.
Byers Scientific is excited to announce that it is now partnering with Manufacturers Financing Services to offer financing on odor control systems for qualified buyers. It is now more affordable than ever to help ensure your landfill has access to best-in-class odor control sufficient to meet the challenges of today.
