Florida Recycling Partnership hosts summit at Kennedy Space Center

Speakers from NASA and Northrop Grumman will speak at the Florida Recycling Summit May 7 event.

The Florida Recycling Partnership, a Tallahassee, Florida-based coalition of businesses and associations dedicated to improving Florida’s recycling rates, will host the Florida Recycling Summit at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Monday, May 7, 2018. Speakers from NASA and Northrop Grumman Corp., Falls Church, Virginia, as well as astronaut Tom Jones, who is slated to be inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in May, will be part of the program. 

The morning session speakers include Julie Edwards from Northrop Grumman, a Recycling Recognition Award winner from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection; Nathan Gelino, NASA research engineer in the area of 3D advanced manufacturing and construction using indigenous and recycled materials; and NASA’s expert on food production, Ralph Fritsche, who will also talk about the Deep Space Gateway and Mars Transit Vehicle. Gioia Massa’s presentation will be about the International Space Station (ISS) experiments, the Vegetable Production System and Advanced Plant Habitat.

After lunch, participants will have the opportunity to go behind the gates and access historic launch sites and working spaceflight facilities at the Kennedy Space Center. Sites will include the Lunar Theatre, the Apollo 11 moon landing exhibit, rockets from NASA’s Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs and Space Shuttle Atlantis.

Registration is $75 and includes summit sessions, admission to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, buffet lunch and tour.
