FCC Environmental Services, the U.S. subsidiary of the Madrid-based global environmental services company FCC, has been awarded a contract to provide the processing and marketing services relating to recyclables from the city of Mesquite, Texas. The total value of the contract is approximately $1.5 million for a period of up to five years.
The city of Mesquite has a population of 145,000 people and is one of the 10 largest cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Together with Dallas, Garland, Mesquite and University Park, FCC will now provide services for the treatment of recyclables to 2 million people in North Texas.
With this latest contract, FCC says it has ensured the processing of 75,000 tons of recyclables for 2017, in its recently opened material recovery facility (MRF) in Dallas. The Mesquite contract marks the seventh signed by FCC in the past two years in the U.S., and is the fifth contract for FCC in the state of Texas. To date, the backlog relating to these contracts stands at around $562 million, according to the company.
The first contracts awarded to FCC in Texas include contracts for the transportation of biosolid waste in Houston; the construction and management of the new MRF in McCommas Bluff Landfill facilities in south Dallas; and to the treatment and commercialization of all recyclable waste in University Park. Furthermore, FCC has recently been awarded two municipal solid waste (MSW) collection contracts in Polk County and Orange County in the state of Florida.
FCC says its environment area has continued to grow internationally in recent years. In the United Kingdom, the company commenced the construction of the Recycling and Energy Recovery Center in Edinburgh and Midlothian in 2016, and also officially opened an energy-from-waste (EfW) plant in Buckinghamshire. At the end of last year, FCC secured several municipal waste collection contracts in Barrow-in-Furness borough council, Cumbria (United Kingdom) and in the city of Prostejov (Czech Republic). FCC also has prequalified for a waste-to-energy and recycling complex in Belgrade (Serbia)
FCC Group is a global leader in environmental services, infrastructure and water management, with a history stretching back more than 100 years across these sectors. Its environment area currently provides services to more than 59 million people in 13 countries. The company has a network comprising more than 200 recycling and treatment plants and 10 energy-from-waste conversion projects, with a capacity of more than 2.6 million tons.
