Waste Management names new chairman

Waste Management Inc. announced that it has elected a longtime member of its board of directors as chairman.


Waste Management Inc., Houston, announced that its board of directors has elected Tom Weidemeyer as chairman of the board.

“We are extremely pleased that Tom has accepted the role of chairman of Waste Management’s board of directors,” Jim Fish, president and chief executive officer of Waste Management, says. “Tom has been a valuable member of the Waste Management board of directors for many years, and his operational and leadership experience position him well to lead our board.”

Weidemeyer, who retired from United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS), Atlanta, as senior vice president and chief operating officer, was first elected to Waste Management’s board of directors in 2005. Over the past thirteen years, Weidemeyer has served on the board’s Audit Committee, Management Development and Compensation Committee and Nominating and Governance Committee, most recently also serving as the chairman of the latter committee. As board chairman, Weidemeyer will serve on all three committees of the board.

Weidemeyer has over 15 years of experience as a member of public company boards of directors and currently also serves as a director of NRG Energy, Inc., Houston; The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio; and Amsted Industries Incorporated, Chicago.
